The APTonCD v0.1 - that must likely will be released next week - now has its 1st complete documentation. It is available offline and can be found through the help button. It covers all features and options of the APTonCD and some examples of how it can be used.

If you find some typo mistake or something that is not very clear, please report it using Malone on it’s project page on Launchpad or send an email to the documentation project leader Rafael Sfair, rsfair AT gmail DOT com

For those who contributed writting, reviewing and suggesting, thank you so much.

I hope to get a wiki in the project page for contributed documentation soon, until there enjoy this excellent material provided for you.

The RC version of APTonCD 0.1 was released yesterday (2007.03.14). Now in freeze for the final release, it will contain only bugfixes, minor improvements, translation and documentation updates (at this time we already have support for 15 languages).

Packages for 0.1~rc-0ubuntu1 are already available in Feisty’s repository. If you are testing feisty right now, just install the ‘aptoncd’ package via apt-get, ‘Add/Remove…’ (gnome-app-install) or Synaptic. If you already have it installed, then update-manager will most likely offer to upgrade it.

For Ubuntu Dapper, Edgy e Debian Etch users:

If you already have an older version installed, from SF.net (0.1beta1), please REMOVE the ‘aptoncd’ package before installing/upgrading to this new one, otherwise you may experience some trouble or issues while upgrading.

• Performance improvements to the TreeView widget in frmCreateC (+60% faster while mounting the list of packages);

• Now we have a README.diskdefines inside the media, to make APT happy;

APTonCD is on Feisty’s Universe right now!

This version is a sync of the current development tree (0.0.99+svn20070202) — 0.1 will be released soon. In this version, we have many more new features and bug fixes than the first beta. I hope to release a RC by next week.

The off-line documentation is pretty nice now and very useful, with description of the use as well as some tips and tricks - it can be accessed by the Help button on the GUI. The documentation is not finished yet, but it’s already usable and useful (wait for something in the next few days). Thanks to Rafael Sfair and Victor Jones.

If you’re testing Feisty, try to install the ‘aptoncd’ package (yah, sudo apt-get install aptoncd), use it, and please report any bugs found. Leave your sugestions and comments (which can be done directly by email to me). It will be greatly appreciated.

For non-Feisty users, wait for a RC with packages for Dapper, Edgy and Debian Etch in the next weeks.

This version includes:

• Support to create a CD/DVD repository with all your installed/downloaded (.deb) packages;
• Add custom, previously downloaded packages;
• Create a meta-package for easy reinstallation of all packages;
• Complete Restore support, restoring the packages back to cache from a media previously created or an .iso image;
• Auto-select dependencies of the selected packages;

The support to download an entire repository (or specific section of them) is on the way (it’s already done in the current svn repository, and it will be soon on feisty’s repository too).

If you already have the aptoncd 0.1beta1 package installed, please remove it before installing this one from feisty’s rep.

First, I’m Rafael Proença (a.k.a. CypherBIOS), from Brazil.

Finally the new website of Ubuntu-BR is “up and running”

Now using a new template compatible with the Web standards, and also with the Internet Explorer (6.0 e 7.0)
The new logo is online, made by Vinícius Depizzol, that won the contest done here.

Visual improvements and an search box has been implanted, that crawls the entire *.ubuntu-br.org, including the Forum Ubuntu-PT, and mailling lists archive. Thanks Google Coop.

The APTonCD continues taking the APT to anywhere with your download repository module, that will be shipped with the first release, very soon Some screenshots to preview what’s coming soon:

In the last weekend I’ve decided to dedicate some hours to “debianize” the APTonCD package.

To build a debian package cold be very easy, but to build a debian package following all the rules in debian-policy… this is not so easy, but it’s being a interesting task
Now, the [futures] APTonCD packages will be according with the Debian and Ubuntu policy. If you find some error or mistake in the package, please let me know.

I also dedicated myself to increase the compatibility of the APTonCD with Debian etch, the layer of compatibility with older versions of the Debian still is experimental (even so no problem has been related yet :)). Or either, now we have officially supported: Ubuntu Dapper, Ubuntu Edgy, Ubuntu Feisty and Debian Etch!
This is only the begin of “Cypher, the packager”
